What To Eat In Jaipur
EATING IN JAIPUR HAS NEVER BEEN BETTER. NOT ONLY DO I FEEL LIKE I GAIN A FEW KILOS EVERY-TIME I VISIT, THE FOOD JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. THERE ARE HUNDRED OF EATERIES ACROSS THE CITY, BUT IN THIS LIST I'VE DECIDED TO ADD IN THE MUST SEES FOR THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE A LOT OF TIME.
Check out my list of iconic local Jaipur dishes you have to try!
FOR ALFRESCO DINING ON A BUDGET: PEACOCK ROOFTOP RESTAURANT AT HOTEL PEARL PALACE
Address: 51, Hathroi Fort, Hari Kishan Somani Marg, Ajmer Road, Hathroi, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302001
Live music, good food, and decorations like something out of a movie, Peacock is a gem. I usually don't go wild for hotel eateries, but I am so glad I made the journey out for this restaurant. Not only was it packed and lively, the food was so well made that I kicked myself for not going back. Dinner and drinks under the stars in Jaipur should be on your bucket list.
Peacock Restaurant has all kinds of cuisine, from local Indian chow to Italian and Mexican. I had the Caesar Salad and a large thin-crust pizza (divine), and shared some naan, tandoori mushrooms, and some chicken tikka. All was delicious and I didn't get sick from any of it (yay!)
The service can be a little slow but if you're in the mood to chill out to some local musicians and traditional tunes then the time passes quickly. Although I haven't personally stayed at the hotel below, a few travellers swore that it was the best place to stay in Jaipur and that the people alone make it funky and full of life.
FOR AN ESSENTIAL TOURIST PITSTOP: 1135 AD
Address: Amer Fort, Amer Road, Devisinghpura, Amer, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302001
An essential fine dining experience, a visit to 1135 AD is a must on the tour of Jaipur (check out my list of recommended spots to visit, Amer Fort is a goodie). Dine like royalty inside this exquisite establishment. Named 1135AD after the year in which the Kacchawaha clan founded the dynasty, this restaurant is a little pricey but worth it for the experience.
Divided into sections, I was seated in the Shahi Aangan which is the central seating area under the stars. There is also the Swarna Mahal (main restaurant) and a boardroom for meetings. I read in the guide that there is also a Sheesh Mahal room dedicated exclusively for private dining, made entirely entirely from silver and gold. For me, the outdoor seating in a royal fort was enough glamour for one day.
The thali was great, in particular I enjoyed the flavoured rice, and the chicken was dipped in some kind of heaven and had me drooling. One dish that took me by surprise by how good it tasted was the Almond Broth (Badam Shorba), I couldn't get enough of it. If you are planning on dining here during the day, be aware that it gets hot on the terrace. And I mean hot hot.
FOR A GOOD COFFEE PITSTOP: CURIOUS LIFE COFFEE ROASTERS
Address: C 54 A, Sarojini Marg, Panch Batti, C Scheme, Ashok Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302001
I stopped by this cafe for a cheeky coffee, and was not disappointed with their brew. Real beans, good roasting, and not-so-burnt milk. Food looked decent and the place was packed, so don't be shy about sitting down for a snack here.
FOR COFFEE, CAKES, AND SALADS: ANOKHI CAFE
Address: KK Square, C 11, Prithviraj Road, Panch Batti, C Scheme, Ashok Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302001
A tried and true place to head to if you're sick of curry or in need of carrot cake. Organic, healthy, and delicious, this little cafe is my favourite place to head to when I want a 'safe' salad, a good coffee, and some cake.
I haven't tried the bean burger, but a friend said that that is the best thing to order and that I am missing out. There is also an amazing hummus platter that is great for sharing.
Be wary of arriving at peak dining times, especially around lunch time, as the wait time can be close to an hour. The cafe has a really cool shop that I killed time in. It's a little pricier but I found some groovy things that I gifted to friends
