Summer Lip Care // BloomMe HK

Everything you need to learn about lip care

Muah. Kiss.

That’s a kiss across from us to you and your glorious lips. We do hope you are taking extra special care of them and giving them the love they deserve, after all they are a beautiful feature on your already beautiful face.

So come along with BloomMe Talk, let’s go over the basics of caring for our shmackers and remembering the old beauty credence: prevention over cure.

Lip Balm, baby! Your new best friend

A must have for those with lips, a lip balm will help to keep your lips moisturised and nurtured throughout the day. Balm adds back necessary moisture and helps to replace any natural oils that have been lost during the day. It also provides a protective layer to seal in the hydration and keep your lips from drying out. Amazing!

Some even come with a UV protector because yes, your lips can be sun damaged just like the rest of your skin. Choose wisely and reap the benefits but don’t over do the balm. Some people say your lips can become dependant on the balm to stay moisturised but really it’s that you get used to the full effect and begin to believe that your natural lips are super dry without it. Everything in moderation.

Exfoliate Your Lips

A super easy one to do but often overlooked, you will never look back once you discover the joys of exfoliated lips. At home remedies are usually the crowd favourite, and are super easy to make yourself with just a little honey and sugar. Otherwise some balm and moisturisers come with exfoliating properties which is just amazing.

Gently place the product on your lips and rub gently back and forth. Rinse, and voila!

Stay Hydrated

Yes, we do love our hydration facials, but did you know that sipping on water throughout the day not only keeps your skin glowing and your soul shining, but it also keeps your lips happy? Many beauty gurus say that you need to keep drinking water until you no longer feel the urge to apply lip balm to your lips. A sure sign that they are hydrated and healthy, drinking water during the day will leave your lips a little soft and supple (hello, pout!)

Remove your makeup at the end of the day

Just like opening up a window in a stuffy room, give your lips a break and let them breathe after a long day of lipstick. Using your favourite (and gentle) makeup remover or micellar water, wipe away the excess makeup at the end of the day to give your lips a break. This is especially important right before going to bed, so make sure no matter how sleepy you are that you remove all traces of the makeup of the day.

Hydrate overnight

Deep into summer, we are living in a world of air-conditioning and filtered air, and you can bet that if your skin is taking a hit that your lips are too. Try to apply a little bit of lip balm before hitting the pillow and let the balm work it’s magic over night.

Avoid over licking or over-touching your lips during the day

Believe it or not, your lips do not secrete any protective barriers of their own, they are totally on their own when up against the elements. If your lips are feeling a bit sore, dry, or otherwise irritated then you may be touching them too much and introducing too many pollutants to that delicate ecosystem.

Same goes for over licking. Everyone licks their lips during the day, especially when faced with a delicious lunch or a really good spa deal, but in fact you are making your lips worse and leaving them dryer than before. The enzymes in our saliva are a little too harsh for our lips, and we may find that the more we moisten them the more they dry. Try your best to get into the habit of not touching or licking your lips too excessively, and watch them blossom.
